For my graduation project i was hired by creative employer branding agency Steam.
Steam noticed that the advertising market in the Netherlands wasn’t up to par when talking about Diversity & Inclusion. Next to that they weren’t so sure about their own standards in Diversity & Inclusion and would’ve liked to learn more about the subject. So they asked me to come up with a concept to improve diversity & Inlcusion within the company (so it would reflect in the campaigns they were making) but to also set an example for other companies on the market.
During a period of 30 weeks I went at it. I did my research in regard to getting a better understanding of the subject, understanding the target audience, knowing what others have already done. And taking all those insights and implementing them in a workable design/product.
Eventually through many itterations I came up with the Inclusive Design Toolkit.
It’s a physical toolkit that can help the employees from Steam design more inclusive campaigns. This is done through explaining what diversity & Inclusion is, what are causes that make people not be or feel included, why is it importent to include everyone, how can you you find out your own implicit biases, giving them a general checklist so you can easily test if a campaign is inclusive or not and giving specific excercices for how to design an inlcusive campaign based on what design stage a Steam employee is in.
